Self Discovery & Purpose-Who am I? Where am I going? How will I get there?— You will learn, in your life, what your unique contribution to this world can be, based on your interests, skills, past experiences, and what you are passionate about. Then you’ll create your own mission statements to clearly articulate your paths to success and what your financial needs are. Finally, you’ll develop a detailed plan to map your mission and preferences into a job and/or career plan that will guide you to success and personal satisfaction.

Your entire outlook can change once you discover and truly see the vision of your value, your contribution, and your life mission. You’ll realize that you have the ability to have a significant and positive impact on your world, and you discover how to apply your skills and abilities to helping yourself and others.

The Workplace-How to apply your knowledge, skills, interests, attitude, behavior and self-motivation to find, secure and succeed in the workplace.— Here you’ll learn about the 17 foundation skills required of all workers and learn how to incorporate them into your daily life.

This section covers essential workplace skills such as getting organized, the five P’s in problem solving, the four cornerstones of good teamwork, the importance of self confidence and appreciating who you are and effective verbal and written communication.

It guides you through the job search process and success on the job. It stresses the importance of planning and self-motivation in winning a job offer. You’ll learn how to complete job applications, develop cover letters and resumes and how to use them.

You’ll learn the key aspects of job interviewing and how to practice interviewing with a partner. Then, once you have a job, you learn about success in the workplace, such as building relationships, accountability, effective decision-making and how to avoid the main reasons people lose jobs.

Completing this course earns you a Certificate of Readiness that you can present to employers and validated by Teens4Hire.org.

Portfolio-How to tell your story. How to market yourself.— Here you’ll learn the importance of self-management in a dynamic online system that collects the results from your Self-Discovery & Purpose and Workplace modules and you can add proof of your awards, honors, recognition, and other achievements that make you unique.

Your Portfolio can describe and report your job history, resumes, academic transcripts, and entire background that will help “sell” you to a potential employer. You can customize the look of your Portfolio, and it has ways to send links to others so they can log in and check it out. You can include favorite web sites, books, role models, quotes, and words of advice. Plus, Portfolio has areas for exploring career fields to learn more about what interests you and what you care about.

When you have completed the three modules above; Self-Discovery & Purpose, Workplace and Portfolio, you’ll come away from the program with a firm understanding about yourself, your likes and dislikes, jobs you wish to pursue and how to go about pursuing them, how to interview and market yourself and learn about general workplace expectations.
